Another family joining our community of artificial lawn owners

I want to say thank you to the owners of this “casito de campo” to trust on my advices and allow me to create a completely new feeling of living outside this house. I wish you plenty of peaceful and happy years enjoying your house and a lot of perfect garden parties with your friends and family. Your Jeannette de Buck.

Artificial Lawn Exposition

Last October we visited the FSB in Germany, Koeln, the worldwide biggest meeting of companies dedicated to the production of all kind of materials around the artificial lawn. Every two years hundreds of companies that are dedicated to produce fibers, infill materials and astro turf as well as hundreds of products related to artificial lawn, are showing their new materials for the season 2010. We went to the FSB to make sure that we are buying the best products with the highest standard for our clients and another year we could see how many people believe that artificial lawn is a fantastic product for our gardens. We love the artificial grass and every new family that had installed it in their garden or terrace is happy to have made this decision.

New hope for palm trees attacked from the red beatle

With the new methods of palm surgery, we can liberate the stem of the palm tree from the red beetle larvae. We cut carefully beginning from the bottom all leaves and we clean all the holes where the larvae appears. We take away all leaves, even the new leaves growing out of the palm tress hearth. At the end you have a big ugly post in your garden. Immediately it is necessary to treat all the left stem with fungicide and with systemic insecticides and  adhesive assistant products, such as LLANERO and MAGIOL. Doing this, experts in all Spain managed to save plenty of palm trees that had been severely attacked. After this treatment it is necessary to go on with a consequent and well done treatment every month.

Palm trees that are not so hardly affected can be saved by treating them with nematodes, little animals that kill all larvae and that are not harmful to the environment or to other animals.

Another happy family with artificial grass!

We’re very happy to receive such great words from these new artifial turf owners, Peter and Irena.

Dear Jean-Louis

Peter and I would like to say how pleased we are with the synthetic lawn you proposed and laid with you team. From my first enquiry you were responsive and helpful to us with information, samples, and visits to your previous projects. You made the process very easy for us and it was always a pleasure to meet with you to discuss the project – even though you had to come up to our house in the mountains on a number of occasions. You also interfaced in a professional way with our garden builders and as a result everything was done efficiently and without a single problem. You achieved a very high standard indeed. We are extremely delighted with the result! Thank you very much! We are happy to provide a reference and recommendation for any future enquiries you may have. Kindest regards, Irena and Peter Greaves, Monte Mayor

Kind words from Irena and Peter are the reason why we love so much to do our work. Thank you.

Improving a private community garden

The common problem of many communities at the Costa del Sol is that the access to the private garden areas is through the inside of the house.

This means, that the gardeners need a key from the house in order to transport all kind of tools and materials through the house. Many times they leave dirt or scratches on the floors and door frames.

Sometimes they are not coming very regularly and they’re not aware that the water irrigation system is not working properly.

This kind of problems can have an easy solution. Installing synthetic grass you do not need gardeners to cut and maintain the grass and you do not need watering. Using wooden and metal grass borders and the appropriate plants, you can have a really beautiful and cozy garden without the regular need of gardeners.

Be careful when you have synthetic grass installed to remove all water and electricity pipes and tubes from the middle of the grass towards the borders. They may brake occasionally and then you know where they are and it will be easy to fix them. Usually they are not in the best place, because when the plumbers and builders and electricians do the work they try to save money and take the direct way through the middle of the garden.

Visiting some happy owners in Elviria

The construction of this modern house was finished in spring 2009. The garden wasn’t very big and had some difficult areas. The owner’s priority was to have the garden look modern, always clean and to avoid spending a fortune on water and gardeners.

Our selection of plants and the use of synthetic grass was a perfect solution for them. Now, 4 months later, we visited them at their garden and we were very exited to see how fast everything had been growning and how their garden became a wonderful place to be in little time.

Some highlights for the owners were the cactus and succulent bed as well as the synthetic grass.

Big terrace at La Zagaleta with synthetic grass

This big garden extension was build by Zonas Pergola (San Pedro de Alcantara) to gain 120 m2 of garden area. Before, there was only weeds and a big useless slope. We covered the terrace with synthetic lawn and the result is an amazing big chill out area where the owners will probably have a lot of parties and fun.

New modern garden at the Costa del Sol

This new garden was created with the purpose of the owners to avoid hours of garden maintenance work as well as waste of water. All the gardeners as well as a huge part of the garden was plantes with suculent and cactus plants and covered with lava stones. This plants need only once a week a little bit of water and no other cares. At the back of the house we installed wooden gardeners to brake up the long high wall and sintetique grass to create a clean, fresh and green looking area. At the trees area we choosed easy growing trees such as almond, pomegranate, guayabo, papaya, mango, nispero and citrique trees, covering the soil with gravel. At the pool side we planted 36 Scheflera Actynophilla, a very tropical looking and easy growing plant that will cover very soon the ugly view to the nightbours garden. A Kentia palm tree should never missing in a elegant and modern looking garden. At the bottom of the Kentia we planted hundreds of Agapanthus Umbrellatus and at the back Echium Candicans. The blue flowers will soon provide the garden with an amazing blue light. At this garden the gardener only need a brush and some garden sizers to cut of the old flowers as well as some tools to clean the pool and the ponts.

Rhynchophorus ferrigineus: the red beetle that kills our palm trees

[Gallery not found]

Costa del Sol November 2008. A very sad day for our gardening team and the owners of this hundred year old Phoenix Canariensis palm tree which had been the center of attention of their garden for many years.

Although they took all measures recommended by the Junta de Andalucía to treat the palm tree as well as using biological treatments to fight against the red beetle, one morning this palm tree was found with its beautiful central leaves fallen down. Climbing up we found an putrid and very bad smelling mass full of red beetle animal in all their states of development. This was just 5 days after the last treatment.

To save the other 3 Phoenix Dactilifera palm trees the only solution was to cut the affected palm tree away immediately. After calling the town council, we realized that it would take months to have them come to remove our palm tree. The owner decided to run with the costs and hire a private company to remove the palm tree immediately.

In the last weeks many palm trees lost their battle against the red beetle. The Spanish legislation is not giving an effective solution to this huge problem yet. The waiting lists to have the private palm trees removed are way to long. Another problem is, that there is no control wether the private people make any treatments and there are no punishments if they do not get rid of the dead palm trees, the result is thousands of dead palm trees full of new red beetle populations just preparing to fly away to search another palm tree, maybe yours.

Thanks to so much ignorance and lethargy of the Spanish authorities, this little red beetle decided to invite his Asian cousin “the black beetle”. The black beetle is even more dangerous and will attack the last resting palm trees in Mediterranean Countries.

A Balinese Garden with lawn problems

Today we present you a garden in Nueva Andalucía at the Costa del Sol.

This garden is designed in a pure Balinese style, full with little paths, bridges, streams and lakes as well as an extraordinary number of trees and palm trees that allow to create the appropriate micro climate for an huge collection of beautiful tropical plants.

All the landscaping of this garden was marvelous, but not the natural lawn surfaces. The natural grass could not grow well at the grass paths. It was not possible to adapt the water irrigation system properly to all the irregular lawn surfaces. The small “presents” of the family’s dogs as well as the many parties that were celebrated all over the year were big enemies of the natural lawn.

After years of failed attempts to get the natural lawn to be perfect, Nico Finstad, the landscaper of the family, convinced them to try Mediterranean artificial grass. Today, after a whole summer with lots of parties and fun all the synthetic grass areas of the garden are still beautiful.
